Sports Participation
Play Sports at Your Zoned School
Pivot Charter School does not currently offer athletics due to our small school size, but that doesn’t mean your student has to miss out on being part of a team. Under Florida law, charter school students may participate in sports at their zoned public school while remaining fully enrolled at Pivot. At Pivot, students enjoy the best of both worlds: the benefits of a small school environment with personalized learning, strong relationships, and smaller class sizes, along with the athletic opportunities available through larger schools. Because our academic day ends earlier than most traditional schools (1:25 PM for our first session and 2:17 PM for our second session), students have plenty of time to travel to their zoned school for practices or games. This page explains how the process works and what paperwork is required.
Note: Pivot Charter School does not provide transportation to or from the host school.
Who Can Participate
A charter school student may play sports for another school if their charter school does not offer that sport. Pivot students may participate for:
-
Their zoned/assigned public school (based on home address),
-
A public school chosen through the district’s controlled open enrollment process, or
-
A private school that agrees to an athletic participation arrangement.
Students must meet all standard FHSAA eligibility requirements—including academics, attendance, age, and conduct—and follow all deadlines and policies of the host school.
Important: A student cannot play the same sport for more than one school in the same year.
FHSAA Eligibility Requirements
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) establishes statewide rules for student athletic participation. Below are key eligibility criteria that apply to Pivot students who wish to participate in sports through their zoned school:
